Flowering branches extend across a chessboard in “Sakura” by Mariya Yugina. Arranged in a rounded, pale vase, they spread their small pink blossoms towards the left. Behind them, a warm orange wall contrasts with cool fields of blue, mint and white.
The chessboard angles through the centre, carrying vivid blue and pale mint-coloured pieces. On the left, a rounded teapot and two small bowls sit on a tray. In the foreground, two long, slender implements rest across papers bearing chess notation, while rolled sheets follow the right edge of the table. Shifting perspectives tilt the tabletop towards the viewer, bringing each object into view.
The subject connects the free, branching shapes of the blossoms with the ordered squares of chess. Delicate branches introduce movement above the denser gathering of objects, while the colours alternate between warm radiance and cool clarity. The square 80 × 80 cm format brings flowers, tea and chess together in a still life with both calm and visual rhythm.
