Large blue-violet eyes and prominent pink lips meet the viewer in “Zenia” by Mia Färm. The face fills almost the entire square canvas, emerging through fields of white, grey and beige. Dark contours around the eyes, nose and jaw give definition, while golden passages bring warmth to both cheeks.
Vivid pink and turquoise accents interrupt the more restrained tones. In some places, the paint forms dense, richly textured areas; elsewhere, broken strokes reveal traces beneath. Pale blue vertical marks below the eyes and fine white lines across the surface provide a freely abstract counterpoint to the recognisable features.
Mia Färm describes “Zenia” as an exploration of the balance between fragility and strength, calm and intensity. She highlights the interplay of paint, texture and golden elements as central to the portrait’s emotional expression. The 100 × 100 cm format and close cropping give the gaze a prominent role, creating direct contact with the viewer.
