Shells, delicate thread-like textures and small golden details gather on a pale, layered background in “Østerspigen” by Randi Rosa. Creamy white, sandy beige and grey-green tones meet cool blue areas, while brown and rust-coloured accents add warmth. Dense arrangements in the lower half contrast with the more open, misty surface above.
The rounded shapes and ridged surfaces of the shells create pronounced relief among the painted layers. An irregular passage crosses the composition and rises towards the right, while thin trails of colour run down towards the lower edge. The scene may suggest a coastal seabed where water, shells and organic fragments meet.
Randi Rosa accompanies the work with the story of the Oyster Girl, who is irritated by a grain of sand beneath her shell. When the current fails to remove it, she begins coating it in mother-of-pearl, layer by layer, until the irritation becomes a new treasure. The story brings a humorous, thoughtful perspective to the idea of turning something troublesome into something valuable.

Randi Rosa
