A luminous flow of white and yellow breaks through deep blue layers in “Around the falls” by Valdemar. On the left, a bold band of red and orange runs down through the painting, while cobalt and dark navy areas frame the open centre. Two small, dark bird silhouettes fly near the top of the pale passage.
Broad, uneven fields of paint form rock-like shapes around the waterfall-like cascade. Pale blue and turquoise tones connect the dark sides with the white centre, while touches of green emerge below. The contrast between warm reds and yellows and cool blues gives the scene an intense, energetic expression.
Valdemar explains that the work was created with a palette knife and has a thick layer of paint. Visible textures add depth and reinforce the movement through the colours. The 110 × 80 cm format brings together a nature-inspired scene poised between recognisable forms and abstraction, with the small birds offering a point of focus among the large colour fields.
