A luminous opening draws the eye between colourful trees in “Look forward” by Ruth Christiansen. Yellow and creamy-white shades illuminate the centre and continue down through a stream-like passage. On either side, the forest gathers in turquoise, green and dark burgundy fields.
On the left, dense, near-black treetops rise above slender trunks accented with red and pink. On the right, orange foliage meets the cool blue-green colours. Short, broken brushstrokes bring variety to the vegetation, while broader horizontal marks suggest reflections in the pale central passage. A deep-blue field below contrasts with the yellow light further into the scene.
The title may invite the viewer to follow the opening towards the light. The forest remains recognisable, yet freely interpreted colours and visible brush marks give the landscape an imaginative character rather than describing a particular place. The horizontal 40 × 30 cm format brings the darker foreground and luminous depth together in a small, richly coloured painting.
