Five stylised women gather around a small chessboard in “Pink garden” by Mariya Yugina. Their faces, arms and clothing are constructed from angular fields of peach, pink, purple and warm brown. The figures overlap in a closely arranged composition, with varied hand gestures and tilted heads creating movement.
A wide-brimmed hat, long pink gloves, a pearl necklace and a white bow give the figures individual details. Slender chess pieces stand near the lower centre, while a pale glass beside them provides another point of focus. Behind the women, green and turquoise areas open between pink, tree-like forms and suggestions of buildings.
The title and blossoming colours may evoke a gathering in an imagined garden. The chess imagery adds an element of concentration to the scene’s elegant, playful character. The 92 × 73 cm format offers room for both the five portraits and the geometric interplay between figures and surroundings.
