An imaginative world of figures, houses and whimsical details unfolds in “H.C. Andersen's stories” by Lise Dahl. A large portrait face, a tall black hat and a white goat with curved horns draw attention on the right. On the left, a small figure dressed in green stands before a purple house with a steep, dark blue roof.
The turquoise background connects the varied motifs and contrasts with warm orange, red and golden accents. A woman with an elaborate hairstyle appears above the goat, while small buildings, scattered objects and organic patterns invite exploration. Colourful cobblestones form a rhythmic border along the bottom.
The title offers a way into the painting as a freely imagined visual story with echoes of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy-tale world. Rather than defining a single scene, the work brings figures and details together in a playful composition. The 100 × 80 cm format gives space to both the large faces and the smaller storytelling elements.
