A woman with closed eyes and long, dark hair fills “Within” by Stine Maj. A reddish-pink flower rests beside her ear, while her hair flows around the face and extends to the right. Individual strands cross the cheek and neck, introducing movement into the portrait’s quiet expression.
The face, neck and shoulders are painted in broken areas of pink, peach, ochre and muted purple. Visible brushmarks and fine lines bring variety to the skin tones, while dark contours emphasise the hair and closed eyelids. The pale grey background allows the figure to stand out without competing with the colours.
The title and closed eyes may evoke inner calm, reflection and a moment of inward attention. The square 60 × 60 cm format brings the viewer close to the face, highlighting the contrast between the flowing hair and the figure’s still presence.
